Gauntlet Hardcore (Toni HC)
"Roo Keys! Please, oh, please let me in!" - Cassady
Gauntlet is the 5th installment of Toni HC. The cast consists of Toni, Cassady, Matt, Otto, Luke, Zakk, Rookie, Falafel, Yives, Alex, Canute, and Will.
The goal of the season is to unlock the Gauntlet and complete it. The Gauntlet is locked behind four key pieces: the Diamond Block, the Wither Skull, a Valkyrie Queen loot item, and the Mooshroom Trophy. On top of that, each cast member has been assigned a 'calling', which they must complete BEFORE the Gauntlet opens. If not completed, they will die.
If everyone finishes their callings before the Gauntlet opens, the 'Midgame' starts, which will add new challenges the cast must take on depending on who lived and who didn't.
Game Modifications
- Aether I: Adds the Aether dimension, which contains one of the key pieces the cast needs to obtain
- Twilight Forest: Adds the Twilight Forest dimension, which contains one of the key pieces the cast needs to obtain
- NetherEX: Changes the Nether, adding new biomes, mobs, and a new boss: the Ghast Queen
- YUNG's Better Mineshafts: Changes mineshafts on the Overwold, making them more robust
- YUNG's Beter Caves: Changes Overworld cave generation
- Hide Names: Hides other players' names, giving more room for stealth and recon
- MumbleLink: Adds positional audio
Note: Cosmetic Armor Reworked was also in the modpack for this season, but was not used for balance reasons.
List of Callings
- The Apothecary wants to make the 'Ultimate Potion', having to grab a few ingredients first. Each time an ingredient is placed into the Apothecary's Cauldron, a random cast member is afflicted with a random potion effect for a duration. Once all ingredients are placed and the Apothecary has tried their ultimate potion, everyone is inflicted with random potion effects.
- The Necromancer must do a ritual and summon and kill the Twilight Lich of the Overworld (their former master). They can fight it with their undead friend, the Reborn, who is a resurrected person who doesn’t retain any memories of their goals or death.
- The Trickster is there to make everyone laugh, as well as fill some of the more menial tasks around the castle. Maybe they can brush something useful up that could be of interest to other people, such as...
- The Thief, who wants a little "something, something" from the Castle. They can go invisible and steal from the Castle while they’re invisible, with their goal being to steal a very valuable thing of sorts and hold onto it until the Gauntlet opens.
- The Lycanthrope turns into a Werewolf every three nights and attacks anyone on sight. After their first incident, they can seek out a cure to their lycanthropy.
- The Druid has a book that has the cure to lycanthropy and can help the Lycanthrope cure it without much loss.
- The Journeyman is no one of particular. Carry on.
- The Destined has to fulfill an overly complicated ancient prophecy on their own and avoid the ire of…
- The Hunter, who must figure out clues regarding the prophecy, use them to find the Destined, then kill them before they can finish it or else.
- The Cultist worships an evil god and seeks to unleash them out to the world. If they are killed by a person, the Wither is summoned into the world and starts attacking the Castle. If the Wither is ignored, it will show up again before the Gauntlet.
- The Plague must attempt to “cure” someone, which will kill them in two days. They must also prevent other people from trying to interrupt.
- The Assassin is tasked to kill a random person and keep them dead (which includes if they are revived). If the target dies of "natural" causes, the Assassin will get a new target.
Rules
- Keep it chill. While everyone is trying to get their goal done, put some entertainment into it and don’t rush everything.
- There will be a two-day grace period. This means general killing and calling abilities that could kill someone won’t be allowed until the third day. Other calling tasks such as collecting items and whatnot are fine.
- Calling abilities can't be used once inside the Gauntlet.
- Calling goals should be done by the time the fourth and final key item of the Gauntlet is placed. If someone hasn’t finished their goal by the time the Gauntlet is ready to start, they will lose and be killed.
- No destroying blocks in the Castle or any calling-specific building unless told to do so for a goal.
- The only blocks that can technically be destroyed are:
- the signs at the front doors of rooms
- the trapdoors at the windows of said rooms (which should be replaced afterwards)
- the key blocks if they’re used for a goal.
- The only blocks that can technically be destroyed are:
- You can decorate the room that you choose and can even connect it to an adjacent room if given permission by the other room owner. However, you can’t extend the room outwards with another build and such. Build within the space you have.
- You can have another base as well as your room, but it shouldn’t be your main place of residence.
- You can ambush people at portals, but wait until they have fully loaded in and have started moving around for a couple seconds.
- Traps can be set up at peoples’ rooms and the Castle entrance, but not at portals.
- Don’t burn, destroy, or steal calling essential items such as books if it has nothing to do with your calling. Generic ingredients and items don’t count for this, but named items probably shouldn’t be destroyed.
- If an essential item does seem to be missing for whatever reason, let the admin know so it can be replaced.
- Everyone will be given a skull in their inventory. Don’t remove this from your inventory since it will be used for several callings.

Trivia
- Gauntlet's development could be rooted back to a couple previous projects that started as far back as 2018
- The first was a project called "ODYSSEY", whose multiple incarnations had elements implemented into Gauntlet.
- The first iteration of it was in 2018. The premise was basically a CTM map that took place in a Vanilla Minecraft world. The dungeons would be placed in various places and the monument would be at a curated village.
- The second iteration of ODYSSEY began in 2019. It had the same goal, but with the added element of "classes". Each person would be a class and have different abilities, as well as other quirks, including deception elements. They would start split up a la "wanderer", then meet up after completing a solo mission.
- After ODYSSEY was ultimately scrapped, Gauntlet began.
- The original premise of the Gauntlet would be a gamemode where the cast would have one hour to gear up around a curated map, then be teleported into the Gauntlet. Once there, they'd use the items they had collected and complete the Gauntlet on a timer.
- The Gauntlet itself from the original Gauntlet iteration was retained, but the premise was mashed with the old ODYSSEY concept and stuff was tinkered with into what it became.
- The first was a project called "ODYSSEY", whose multiple incarnations had elements implemented into Gauntlet.
- Cosmetic Armor was initially included in the Gauntlet modpack and can be seen in the season, but it was disabled on the server. It was decided that it wouldn't be used due to the potential problems of people not being able to size people up based on what armor they wore.
- Ajoosh was originally planned to be in the season, but couldn't make it to the recording. Will ended up being the replacement.
- The document containing all the information can be found here.
