Smash Themecore: Indie Clash is the first Ultra Hardcore season of Themecore, straying away from the normal Hardcore goals and instead focusing on a PvP-orientated battle. The 8 cast members are split into 4 different teams, all representing different Indie Games with their skins:

The Blue Team consists of Quote and Piggy, representing Cave Story.

The Red Team consists of Spicy and RJ, representing Celeste.

The White Team consists of Toad and Kyoger, representing Hollow Knight.

The Yellow Team consists of Amber and Renn, representing OneShot.

Game Modifications

• Ultra Hardcore: Ultra Hardcore is a PvP gamemode that spreads the four teams out across the world where they are then given a certain amount of time to gear up before fighting each other. With it also comes rules of its own:
  • Natural health regeneration is turned off, making golden apples the only way to refill hearts.
  • The world border is set to 1500 blocks, and after an hour has passed, it will begin to shrink over the span of 20 minutes, stopping at 200 blocks.
• Positional Audio: Players are able to hear each other throughout the game based on how close they are to each other, being louder in close distances and quieter from far distances, up to no longer being heard.

Season Summary

All four teams start spread across the world, immediately beginning to gather resources. Team Cave Story, true to their names, delve into the caves to look for iron and gold for armor and weapons, and golden apples respectively, and come out with full iron armor and tools, a bow each, and a golden apple each. Team Celeste find multiple ravines, getting full iron armor and tools each, while Spicy gets 46 arrows with no bow and a golden apple, and RJ gets 2 golden apples. Team Hollow Knight start to dig downwards, taking a while to find a proper cave but finding enough diamonds to enchant their gear, ending with full iron armor and tools each with Toad getting a diamond pickaxe and a single golden apple. Team OneShot finds a surface ravine, getting an early head start, ending phase 1 with diamond swords, iron tools, and a bow with 29 arrows each, Amber having a diamond chestplate and iron boots, helmet, and leggings, and Renn with full iron armor and a golden apple.

When the border begins to shrink, Quote has 10HP, Piggy has 20HP, Spicy has 19HP, RJ has 14HP, Toad and Kyoger have 20HP, and Amber and Renn have 19HP. Team Cave Story frantically tear down trees to make more golden apples, Team Celeste find a mountain to take shelter in, Team Hollow Knight start to hunt for other teams and find Team OneShot, who were trying to sneak around, marking the first instance of combat between two teams. The teams damage each other significantly, with Amber ending up dead and Renn, Toad, and Kyoger weakened. Taking advantage of their weakened state, Team Celeste take on Team Hollow Knight, but are pushed back with force, ending up with all four severely wounded. As the sun rises, the border stops shrinking, binding all four teams in just a 200x200 block arena.

Without a teammate, Renn tunnels underground, but is heard by Team Hollow Knight. As they are forming a truce, Kyoger is shot by Spicy, causing them to flee. Soon after, Team Cave Story and Team Hollow Knight meet, trading arrow shots, before Quote rushes in to kill Toad. Kyoger manages to escape with just 1HP, but finds Team Celeste. He attempts to place a bucket of lava on top of them, but accidentally places it on himself, dying. Spicy and RJ are unharmed by said lava. As the forest begins to burn down, Team Celeste ambushes a now weakened Team Cave Story, killing Quote. Piggy runs away, finding Renn once night falls. Piggy claims it to be homosexual to not fight, yet leaves right after despite his words and Renn's attempts at teaming. Piggy soon enough finds Team Celeste again, now weaker due to a mix of nighttime mobs and fall damage, and begins to fire upon them, killing Spicy in the process. RJ charges at Piggy with only 1HP, resolved to his death and trying to deal as much damage to Piggy as he can, dying in the process. During their fight, Renn laments his inability to place a door on top of leaves. Come daytime, and the rain had washed away the forest fire. Piggy spots Renn atop the trees, and begins firing at him, with Renn having no choice but to return fire. Piggy claims bow fights to be lame, successfully killing Renn with a bow, claiming victory of the season for Team Cave Story. After celebrating his victory, he pillars upwards and jumps off to his death.

Trivia

• All represented Indie Games can be found on the Steam Store.
• Because of the variety of games represented, the Nova Quest portraits are used, rather than new ports by Medley.
• The production name for Indie Clash was "Undertale Themecore".
  • In the trailer during the OneShot segment, a remix from Kamex is used. In this song, Kamex ripped some music from the Waterfall part in Undertale, meaning that Undertale is canon in the Themecore Universe.
