Summoning

Plantera is summoned by mining a Plantera bulb, which spawns randomly in the underground jungle after all three mechanical bosses are defeated.

Attacks

There are two phases to the Plantera fight. In the first phase, Plantera creeps towards the player, shooting projectiles as its main form of attacks.

  • Running into it deals 50 contact damage in this phase (114 in Expert).
  • The hooks it uses to grapple onto blocks will deal 60 contact damage (120 in Expert).
  • It shoots pink seeds at the player constantly, each of which deals 44 damage (76 in Expert).
    • In Expert, these seeds will home in slightly on the player.
  • Sometimes, these seeds will be green and poisonous, dealing 54 damage (94 in Expert) and having a 50% chance of inflicting poison for 3-7 seconds. In Expert, they have a 100% chance of inflicting poison for 2-9 seconds.
  • When it nears second phase, it begins shooting out thorn balls that bounce along the ground, dealing 62 damage (108 in Expert).
    • Like the seeds, these also have slight homing capabilities in Expert.

Once Plantera is brought down to half of its health, it enters its second phase, focusing on ramming the player and moving much faster.

  • Plantera itself will deal 70 contact damage (140 in Expert).
  • Various tentacles attached to Plantera's body will be released, each dealing 60 contact damage (120 in Expert). These will not respawn if they are killed.
    • In Expert, these tentacles also will be attached to the hooks.
  • Occasionally, it will spew out spores that drift towards the player, dealing 70 damage (126 in Expert).

If the player goes to the surface while being followed by Plantera or accidentally strays into a different biome, Plantera will become enraged. It will directly rush the player, dealing twice the damage (quadruple in its second phase), twice the defense, and faster movement speed. Plantera's behavior will return to normal if the player enters the underground jungle again.

Defeating Plantera

Upon defeating Plantera, the player gets the Temple Key, giving them access to the jungle temple. It also causes new, harder enemies to spawn in the Dungeon. Multiple other minor changes occur, including:

  • A few extra Solar Eclipse enemies will spawn.
  • Availability of Cyborg NPC.
  • Additional items from Truffle, Traveling Merchant, and Witch Doctor.
  • Spread of Corruption, Crimson, and Hallow slows to 1/3 its normal speed.
